Reuters has corrected an April 19 story that said Rosneft was helping Venezuelan authorities evade U.S. sanctions.
"The article has been corrected to clarify that Reuters cannot determine whether payments were made under the agreement in question. It has also removed references to Evrofinance Mosnarbank and clarified that experts do not see a sanctions violation," Reuters said in a commentary .
Earlier, the agency reported that the Venezuelan state company PDVSA sends Rosneft invoices for oil, which it pays at a discount. Rosneft then allegedly sells the Venezuelan oil to end buyers at full price, thus acting as an intermediary.
The corrected version of the article says that PDVSA “asked at least two of its clients to make payments for Venezuelan oil through the Russian oil giant, Vedomosti notes.
Rosneft has previously accused Reuters of “information sabotage.” The company said it intended to contact law enforcement agencies to stop Reuters’ work in Russia.
“This is an unprecedented admission that we were right in our assessment of the Reuters material,” Rosneft representative Mikhail Leontyev told Vedomosti today.
