The FSB reported the detention in Nalchik of a member of the Islamic State who was preparing a terrorist attack

In Nalchik, FSB officers on April 25 detained a member of the Islamic State who was planning to carry out an explosion, TASS and RIA Novosti reported with reference to the Public Relations Center (PSC) of the special service. Security forces seized an explosive device he had made.

According to the FSB, the detainee was previously part of the so-called “Baksan bandit group”, where he made homemade explosive devices.

These explosive devices were used in attacks on the Baksan hydroelectric power station in 2010 and on security forces in Kabardino-Balkaria from 2009 to 2012.

“After neutralizing the leaders and active members of this bandit group, he established secret contacts with MTO moderators located in Syria, from whom he received instructions to prepare and carry out a terrorist action,” the report says.

The FSB Directorate for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic opened a case on the fact of preparation to commit a terrorist act (Part 1 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code).

In the summer of 2010, a group of militants broke into the territory of the Baksan hydroelectric power station. As a result of the attack, two security guards were killed and two hydroelectric generators were blown up.
