ECHR: Russia violated 5 articles of the Convention and is obliged to pay 15,300 euros for the action “He is not Dimon to you”

The European Court of Human Rights recognized that Russia violated five articles of the Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) in relation to the coordinator of Alexei Navalny's headquarters in Kazan, Elvira Dmitrieva, who was detained and fined because of the action "He is not Dimon to you." This is reported by the "Apology of Protest". The decision is published on the website of the court.

The court ordered Russia to pay 15,300 euros for violations against it of Articles 11 (freedom of assembly), 10 (freedom of expression), 5 (freedom of movement), 6 (fair trial) and 13 (lack of effective remedies) of the ECHR.

Dmitrieva was the organizer of the action “He is not Dimon to you”, which took place on March 26, 2017 in Kazan. The day before the event, a protocol was drawn up against her about organizing an action without filing a notification (part 2 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) because of a post on social networks dedicated to the upcoming event.

After the rally, Dmitrieva was detained and reports were drawn up on her about the violation by the organizer of the rules for holding a public event (part 1 of article 20.2 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) and disobedience to the police (article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses). In total, the coordinator was fined 11 thousand rubles, and in addition, she was assigned 20 hours of compulsory work.

UPD On September 10, Russia appealed the decision of the ECtHR to the Grand Chamber, but they considered Russia's claims unfounded. The decision of the ECHR has entered into force, now the Russian Federation is obliged to pay Dmitrieva 12,500 euros. According to the decision of the European Court, Russia will pay another 2,800 euros to lawyers representing Dmitrieva in the ECtHR. This was reported in the telegram channel "Apology of Protest".

• On September 9, protests against raising the retirement age were held in many cities of the country. In total, according to OVD-Info, more than 1,200 people were detained that day. In Kazan, 22 people were detained during the rally itself. Many coordinators and volunteers of Navalny's headquarters, including Elvira Dmitrieva, were detained and arrested before the rallies.
