The head of the Ingushetia Interior Ministry has been fired. His resignation was linked to the protests in Magas, which led to the disbandment of a police battalion

Russian President Vladimir Putin has dismissed the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ingushetia, Dmitry Kava. The corresponding decree was published on the Internet portal of legal information.

In early April, Interfax reported , citing a source, that Kava had submitted his resignation "against the backdrop of events in Magas." On March 26-27, a rally was held there against changes to the local law on referendums. Clashes began between protesters and Rosgvardia officers. The local police battalion that tried to separate them was accused of attempting to prevent the dispersal of the rally and was disbanded.

According to investigators, 10 police officers and Rosgvardia officers were injured in clashes with demonstrators in Magas. After the protest, a criminal case was opened on assault on law enforcement officers. A number of Ingushetia opposition leaders were arrested under it.
