The section on the collaborationism of the Crimean Tatars will be removed from the history textbook of Crimea

The Crimean authorities announced that the chapter on the cooperation of the Crimean Tatars with the German troops during the Great Patriotic War would be removed from the school history textbook for grade 10. This is reported by Interfax.

“The decision was made in order to prevent conflict on ethnic grounds. The specified chapter - about collaborationism - will be removed from the textbook, ”the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Crimea told the agency.

In February, the Council of Crimean Tatars appealed to the head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, with a request to withdraw the textbook. Their appeal stated that the Crimean Tatars were described in it as collaborators, accomplices of the German occupiers, enemies of the Soviet regime and Muslims who hate Russians.

The State Duma promised to withdraw manuals from school and public libraries. The Prosveshcheniye publishing house, which published the book, agreed with the permission of the authors to make changes to the textbook. However, one of its co-authors called the section that aroused the indignation of the Council objective. “The authors do not blame the Crimean Tatar people. Collaborationism was inherent in individual representatives of many peoples, including Russian, Armenian, Bulgarian and others, ”he noted.

At the same time, the Ministry of Education said that such a textbook is not in the federal list of textbooks.

In one of the chapters of the textbook it is written that about 20 thousand Crimean Tatars served the German invaders during the Great Patriotic War, another 14 thousand people participated in the fight against partisans. At the same time, the Council noted, the authors did not talk about the contribution of the Crimean Tatar people to victory in the war.
