At Shies station, private security company employees beat up opponents of the construction of a landfill

In the Arkhangelsk region, at the Shies station, employees of a private security company beat up opponents of the construction of a landfill. This was reported by Novaya Gazeta with reference to local resident Svetlana Babenko.

On the morning of May 10, two helicopters delivered diesel fuel for dump trucks to the construction site. The activists tried to prevent the unloading of fuel, but the guards began beating them. The Activatica project clarifies that these were employees of the private security company “Guarantor of Security”.

“This is some kind of complete chaos, the security exceeds their authority, they directly attacked our guys, pushed and punched them. The police officers were inactive all this time and did not take any measures, they simply watched the beating of activists,” local resident Nikolai Maksimov told the project.

As Babenko told Novaya Gazeta, one of the activists allegedly suffered a concussion and is being taken to the hospital. Several more people called an ambulance to the scene to record the beatings. According to Babenko, the guards also tried to attack the doctors.

• A landfill is being built in Shies to import garbage from Moscow into the region. Local residents believe that the operation of the landfill will lead to an environmental disaster. For more than a month, activists have been on duty at the construction site and blocking the roads to the station.
• On April 7, an uncoordinated march and rally took place in Arkhangelsk against the import of Moscow garbage, a landfill for which is planned to be built at the Shies station. The police did not arrest anyone that day, but after the event the pressure on environmental activists increased. About 36 people were fined for holding an anti-garbage event in Arkhangelsk for a total amount of more than 991 thousand rubles. According to MBH Media, the figure has already reached a million rubles.
• At the end of April, a criminal case was opened under the “Dada Article” 212.1 of the Criminal Code - repeated violation of the rules of public events. It involved Andrei Borovikov, a participant in Arkhangelsk environmental protests.
• This is not the first criminal case under the “Dada article” this year. Thus, in January, after searches, Vyacheslav Egorov, a member of the “No Dump in Kolomna” movement, was detained. A criminal case was opened against him on the basis of four administrative cases under the article on violation of the rules for holding rallies. Both criminal cases are related to garbage protests.
