Yekaterinburg: OMON pushed the protesters against the construction of the temple

In Yekaterinburg, OMON employees began to squeeze out the participants of the spontaneous action against the construction of the temple in the city center from the square, where the action takes place. According to local media reports, at least 25 people were detained, including minors. There are victims, one of the activists, according to reports, is broken by a rib.

Earlier, activists opposing the construction of the temple demolished and threw part of the fence around the square into the river. The clashes around the fence continued all evening. After riot police squeezed out people from the square, it was reported that the fence was restored.

At the same time, as eyewitnesses note, many of the hundreds of people who came to the action did not participate in any skirmishes, they sang songs, played musical instruments, chanted speech.

After OMON began active actions, the protesters blocked the movement of cars along Boris Yeltsin Street in the city center. Subsequently, the police restored order on the roadway.

Several dozen participants in the center remained in the center until late at night.

The shares against the construction of the temple began on Monday, after the alleged place of its construction was surrounded by fence. Local residents are opposed to the destruction of the square near the drama theater.

Earlier, the administration of the Sverdlovsk region refused to transfer the place of the temple’s exhibition in the center of Yekaterinburg, which caused a clash of activists with construction protection. On Tuesday, Governor Yevgeny Kuyvashev held a meeting between opponents and supporters of the construction of a 70-meter building. Opponents of the construction called her to no avail.

According to the results of the meeting, the vice-governor Sergei Bidonko said that the authorities have no reason to transfer the construction site of the facility, quoted his city portal E1. He called the possibility of building new green zones in the city with a compromise by officials.

A participant in the meeting by activists - historian Alexei Mosin told the publication that he was not satisfied with the results of the conversation. He proposed to remove fences from construction and take out all armed people.

The head of Yekaterinburg, Alexander Vysokinsky, promised to track the situation with the protest in the operational headquarters at the city hall. At a meeting on Tuesday, representatives of the authorities said that shares against the construction of the temple or in its support should be agreed with the authorities. For the evening, an Orthodox mobelene was scheduled in the square, it was canceled.
