Red Square will become an arena for competitions between the best archers on the planet

The World Archery Federation has decided to hold the World Cup final in Moscow on Red Square from September 6 to 7.

As the press service of the organization notes, this tournament will be the first major international archery competition in Russia since the 1980 Olympics.

"The Archery World Cup is an event tailor-made for iconic locations. Red Square is not only stunning, but also the perfect place for Russian archers to compete on the world stage in their home country for the first time in a long time. We are confident that that Moscow will be able to host a quality event,” the message says.

On the 2019 World Cup calendar, Moscow officially joins Medellin, Shanghai, Antalya and Berlin as hosts of the final stage. Last year the final was held in Samsun, Turkey.

Although major archery events have not been held in Russia since 1980, domestic athletes have consistently achieved success on the world stage. Ksenia Perova is the current world champion in archery, and the Russian women's team took silver at the Rio Olympics .
