The First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev was appointed the Honorary Chairman of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council (VES), the highest supranational body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). This was announced by the press secretary of the former president.

The decision was made at the summit of the member countries of the Union-Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. The current president of Kazakhstan Kasim-Zhomart Tokaev said that Putin proposed to Nazarbayev, "taking into account his [Nazarbayev] historical contribution to the formation of the Union."
