Let's talk about sex

Russian media still learn to speak on a natural topic. But otherwise the problem of sex education cannot be solved.

“I did not look at a single issue,” are the words of Yuri Dudia about the “delicate editor”, the show of one of his editors Tatyana Mingalimova. At the same time, he praised her new show on YouTube, where they speak freely about sex. Commentators generally agree with the journalist: they praised a new format, congratulated on the right changes and asked not to stop. For a “delicate editor”, a positive feedback is a rarity: most often spectators criticize an interview from Mingalimova for tactlessness, unpreparedness and arrogance.

The approving reaction to a new show is explained by the existing request to discuss sex, porn and education on these topics. Society condemns even an innocent manifestation of sexuality (a recent story about the persecution of schoolchildren at the last call), not in all schools they talk about condoms and are embarrassed by the anatomy of sex, the state idea to introduce sexual education lessons to nothing, and works of art with such a subtext are often censored .

Ten years after the collapse of the USSR, journalists, writers and bloggers have not found an approach to this topic. In the 2000s, there were sex with Anfisa Chekhova and obscene articles at “Speedes.” A little later, texts began to come out about the male side of sex in GQ and MAXIM. The new mainstream media did not sincerely, without constraining and shaving with the audience to talk about sex. Large publications do not have sex-columnists, cool articles about sex do not come out, and cases of poor-quality sexword from the state are not often criticized.

Against such a background, to satisfy a request for sex loser has a smaller media. Wonderzine writes about the female side of sex, toys and love of masturbation in Russia. The stories of sex are fed by the audience " Batenka ". Male reflection and a less serious approach remained with " disgusting men ." There are examples of less: the podcast “Is this is sex?”, Numeroussex bloggers and a few video bloggers . These are precisely active and interested individuals, and not professionals or sex-collectors.

How much the request for sexual journalism is easier to explain by personal example. Before getting to TJ, I worked as an editor on “disgusting men”, where I regularly wrote about sex and porn . Then he created a Telegram channel , formed around himself a reputation as a person who is versed in porn, and in five months he gained two thousand subscribers. Almost immediately after the appearance of the channel, journalists and bloggers came to me: I wrote a column in the blog “Is this Sex”, gave an interview “Afisha” and acted as an “ expert ” in the material “Butenes”. This is what I have: all these publications came up with an “expert” even without a special education or life experience.

A simple answer to the question why on TV, large media and on popular YouTube channels do not talk about sex, no. But there are several assumptions. Among serious journalists, there is a neglect of sex topics and porn. Other media people can condemn the attempts of sex education under public pressure. And those who are trying to do something come across a misunderstanding of the audience and even public humiliation. The sex blogger Tatyana Nikonova recently gained popularity was recently harshly and unreasonably criticized : for an overview of vibrators, the Kamedi Club resident Pavel Volya wished her "such a giant member to turn into a crash test."

Sex journalism should become part of modern Russian media. And I would like that in every large federal media there was one Carrie Bradshaw with a column about sex education.

But if right now we cannot start talking about sex, then let's discuss at least why we cannot do this.
