Supreme Court of Spain suspended the exhumation of the remains of Franco

The Supreme Court of Spain suspended the exhumation of the remains of the dictator Francisco Franco from the memorial complex of memory to those who died in the civil war. The Generalissimus's burial place was planned to be transferred by the government of the country no later than June, the newspaper El País recalls .

The Left -Center Government of Spain announced plans to transfer the remains of Franco from the complex of the valley of those who fell near Madrid in 2018, the initiative belonged to the Socialist Party.

The opposition and descendants of Franco opposed the reburial. "[Prime Minister Pedro] Sanchez is more important to revive the ghosts of the past than to try to turn people's eyes to the future," said Pablo Kasado, the leader of the legal folk party of Spain.

The descendants of Franco demanded that his remains to the Cathedral of Madrid, but this requirement was blocked by the government that did not want to create a place for worshiping the dictator in the tourist center of the city.

General Francisco Franco, after the victory in the Civil War of 1936-1939, became the leader of the right, dictatorial regime. He ruled Spain until his death in 1975.
