
In the Khabarovsk Territory, about 3.3 thousand orphans are entitled to receive housing, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office said on June 4. On the eve of 11 of them began a hunger strike at the building of the regional government.
According to the agency, on May 1, more than 4.5 thousand orphans and children left without parental care, 3284 of them, are entitled to receive housing, are registered with the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services of the region.
The prosecutor of the Khabarovsk Territory Vitaly Kaplunov met with the starving. Based on the results of the meeting, appeals were made on failure to fulfill court decisions obliging the regional Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities to provide housing to orphans.
The hunger strike lasts a day. One of the participants in the action was hospitalized. Doctors evaluate her condition as satisfactory.
Governor Sergei Furgal also met protesters. According to him, one of the protesters as an exception will receive an apartment in the near future, as it is a many-children single mother. The rest of the orphan will have to wait for the queue.
The governor also told the starving that this year to orphans will be allocated 580 apartments, half of which in Khabarovsk. In response to this, activists decided to continue the protest.
Investigators of Khabarovsk began checking the provision of housing to orphans. They are going to find out if there are signs of negligence in the actions of officials of the regional government.
The prosecutor of the industrial district of Khabarovsk attracted the administrative responsibility of the developer, who did not build housing for orphans in Nikolaevsk-on-Amur in time, the press service of the department said on June 5.
