Karaskov was taken to the City Clinical Hospital No. 1 from the TDF, reports Kommersant-Sibir on June 4. He is in the intensive care unit.
“When conducting investigative actions during his detention, the defense warned the investigation about his state of health,” Karaskov’s lawyer Viktor Salapanov said.
The case against Karaskov was brought under Part 4 of Art. 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (embezzlement). His wife, deputy director of the clinic, Irina Boytsova, who is suspected under Part 5 of Art. 33, part 4 of Art. 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (complicity in embezzlement).
Karaskov and his wife were detained on June 3. The court is to consider the investigator's request for a measure of restraint on June 5.
Alexander Karaskov headed the list of United Russia in the elections to the Novosibirsk Legislative Assembly in 2015. The deputy became deputy chairman of the committee on social policy. On May 16, 2019, Karaskov was dismissed from the post of director of the Meshalkin clinic, which he had been in charge of for 20 years. At the May session of the legislature, he resigned - he called the house that was not declared by mistake the formal reason.
In 2019, the deputy director of the clinic, another well-known scientist Yevgeny Pokushalov, was accused of fraud (part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and money laundering (part 4 of article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), he is under house arrest. It was reported about the damage of about 1.3 billion rubles. The co-owners of Favorit LLC, which supplied medicines for the hospital, Evgeny Pervushin and Alexander Sorokin, as well as Andrei Tretyakov, also became suspects.
