Ilya Abramovich Leenson (1945–2019)

May 29 Ilya Abramovich Leenson, the author of many books on chemistry for children and adults, died. But his interests were much wider. For many years we met with Ilya at our summer linguistic school, where he first arrived as the husband of Evgenia Semenovna Ablyuk, but then he became a full-fledged participant-organizer and for many years she conducted his “intellectual fireworks”, a quiz about everything in the world. Ilya fit perfectly into the linguistic company, because no less chemical elements were interested in the words and words that he talked about and wrote a lot about it. In Corpus, his book “The Language of Chemistry. Etymology of chemical names. " Ilya was a very noticeable figure on LLSh. At the lectures, he always sat on the first row and first tried to ask a question after the lecture ended, and then, together with Vladimir Andreevich Uspensky, they walked along the paths or discussed something at the headquarters. He was born in 1945, but remained a perfect child, talented and restless, not always convenient for others, but terribly charming. We will all miss Ilya Abramovich.
