Mathematician Azat Miftakhov's arrest extended until August 7

The Golovinsky Court of Moscow extended until August 7 the arrest of Moscow State University graduate student Azat Miftakhov, accused of hooliganism. This was reported in the “Protest MSU” telegram channel.

At the very beginning of the hearing, Miftakhov was removed from the courtroom because he refused to stand up when answering a question from Judge Arnaut. Lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina challenged the judge, but he rejected the application. The mathematician was allowed to attend the hearing after the lawyer spoke with him at the request of the judge.

In addition, one of the listeners was removed from the hearing because he reacted with laughter and the remark “he doesn’t exist” to the phrase “lack of respect for the court.”

• Azat Miftakhov is a graduate student at the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Moscow State University, an anarchist who was arrested on charges of hooliganism (Part 2 of Article 213 of the Criminal Code). The case was opened due to the events on the night of January 31, 2018, when unknown persons broke a window in the United Russia office in Khovrino and threw a smoke bomb inside.
• Miftakhov was detained on February 1, and later he told his lawyer about torture with a screwdriver. For the next 11 days, his detention was extended under various pretexts.
