The military court extended the arrest of Filinkov and Boyarshinov, defendants in the Network case, for three months.

The Moscow military court, at an off-site hearing in St. Petersburg, extended until September 11 the arrest of Viktor Filinkov and Yuliy Boyarshinov, defendants in the “Network” case, accused of participating in a terrorist community. Mediazona reports this.

The court, which took place on June 4, considered that the circumstances that could influence the change in the preventive measure had not changed. Filinkov and Boyarshinov asked to be transferred from the pre-trial detention center to house arrest. Novaya Gazeta journalist Tatyana Likhanova stated in court that she was ready to provide housing to Filinkov.

During the meeting, FSB director Maxim Volkov took samples of the voices of Boyarshinov and Filinkov to conduct a phonoscopic examination. During the procedure, the defendants were required to speak for ten minutes. During this time, Filinkov spoke about torture by FSB officers.

“When I was tortured, it was unexpected. It was not at all like how they show it in the movies. I've never experienced anything like this in my life. I was electrocuted - the socket. But when they hit me with a shocker for a while, it’s a completely different feeling. Compared to them, they beat me, and the beatings were not felt. Except when they hit me on the head, my eyes turned white,” Mediazona quotes Filinkov’s story.

Before announcing the decision to extend the preventive measure for the defendants, Judge Roman Muranov noted that the examination “is not a quick matter.”

• According to the intelligence services, the Network is a terrorist organization, with cells in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Penza and Belarus.
• The defendants in the Network case talked about psychological pressure, electric shock torture and weapons that FSB officers planted on them. Some of them refused to confess and said that they gave them under torture.
• The defendant in the case in St. Petersburg, Igor Shishkin, who entered into a pre-trial agreement with the investigation, was sentenced to 3.5 years in a general regime colony.
• In April 2019, it became known that the Network was included in the list of terrorist organizations prohibited in Russia.
