In 2001, 25-year-old Perry Chen worked as a musician in New Orleans. Then he caught fire to bring several DJs to the local jazz festival, but faced a rather banal problem: he did not have enough money. Moreover, all preparations were made. Chen found a platform, agreed with DJ managers. But he did not have insurance funds that would allow to pay off all expenses for low ticket sale. The angry future founder of Kickstarter thought : what if there is such a site where many people can promise that they will buy tickets? If they do this, then money will be written off, and the concert will take place. If there are not enough people, then there will be no show.

This idea pursued Chen for a long time, but he did nothing with her - music was much more interesting for him. In 2005, he moved to New York, where he met with music journalist Yansi Strickler and designer Charles Adler. He told them about the site, the concept of which was invented a couple of years ago in New Orleans. Stickler and Adler agreed to help Chen in implementation. To do this, new friends through friends of friends found people who knew how to cram. It remained to find a person who would agree to invest in a new startup. They became actor David Cross. Most of all, he is known for the series “Slow Development”, whose fans achieved its continuation for the third season (though he was still suspended for a long time). Chen used this story as the fact that a large fan base could have authority.
