The court extended the arrest term of a Crimean Tatar activist whose leg was amputated

The Kiev District Court of Simferopol extended for two months the arrest of Crimean Tatar activist Edem Bekirov, who has a disability of the first group and diabetes. It is reported by "Crimea. Realities".

FSB investigator Ivan Romanets explained the need to extend the period of arrest by saying that it was necessary to “perform at least three checks on the evidence on the spot”, as well as to bring charges against Bekirov in the final version, interrogate him as an accused and notify him and the defense of the completion of investigative actions.

“The only legal decision of the court, which would be a balance between the prosecution and the defense, is the refusal to satisfy the petition of the investigation to extend the arrest in the pre-trial detention center and choose a measure of restraint in the form of house arrest. Today's decision threatens the life of my client," lawyer Aleksey Ladin explained to the publication.

Bekirov was detained on December 12, 2018 at the entrance to Crimea, where he was going to see his mother. He has been in jail since December 13th. According to the activist's daughter, in the Simferopol pre-trial detention center for the first two days, the man was not given water, food, and was not taken to the toilet.

According to investigators , the activist arrived in Crimea and gave the taxi driver a bag with almost 12 kg of TNT and almost 200 rounds of ammunition and asked him to hide it. According to the case file, the taxi driver hid the bag and, without waiting for it to be picked up, told the FSB everything. At the same time, for health reasons, a man cannot lift weight more than 1.5 kg.
