The investigation asks the court to arrest Golunov

The investigation is asking the Nikulinsky Court of Moscow to arrest Meduza journalist Ivan Golunov. This was reported to TASS by a representative of the court: “At the moment, the material on choosing a measure of restraint in the form of detention in respect of Golunov I. has been submitted to the Nikulinsky court. The delivery of the accused to the court building is expected.”

Golunov is now being examined in the hospital, where he was taken from the police department at the insistence of the ambulance doctors. Doctors suspect he has a concussion and broken ribs. The police opposed the examination and intend to go to court to put the journalist in a pre-trial detention center. 48 hours have already passed since the arrest of Golunov, but the police are counting the time from the moment the detention protocol was drawn up (the early morning of June 7), which was not drawn up at the time of his arrest (the afternoon of June 6).

Journalists and members of the public have been on duty outside the Nikulinsky court building since the morning. This is not only an expectation of the court, but also an action of support - people take turns standing up with posters, holding single pickets. A petition on change.org in defense of Ivan Golunov was signed by more than 49,000 people. Actions in his support are held throughout Russia and abroad.

The police accused Golunov of attempted drug trafficking on a large scale. The journalist himself denies guilt, saying that the drugs were planted on him.
