"Non -professionalism or thugs": Matvienko criticized the actions of investigators in the case of Golunov

Violations and errors made during the detention of the journalist of the Internet publication "Medusa" Ivan Golunov cause distrust of the investigating authorities. This was stated by the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko, whose words are quoted by TASS.

According to Matvienko, in this situation there are many questions to which society should get clear and intelligible answers. “Why did journalist Ivan Kolunov without a court decision were detained for more than 48 hours? Why were photographs from another place , and not from his apartment where the search took place? Why was he not present during the search? Either this is such unprofessionalism, or is it such a thug, or this is a provocation. I don’t even know,” Matvienko said.

She added that the members of the Federation Council will keep the situation with the detention of a journalist, and the public attention to her will be a guarantee of the objective of the investigation. "The Prosecutor General’s Office took this issue under its tight control, and Yuri Yakovlevich Chaika said to me that this issue would be under his personal hard control," she added. Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s office requested from the investigation the materials of the criminal case of Golunov and demanded to provide information regarding other “anti -drug cases” in the western district of Moscow.

Also, the intention to personally study the case of Golunov was announced by the adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov , who recalled the criminal article for deception and harvesting of facts. He did not exclude that after the proceedings, personnel decisions may follow.

The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin is "very carefully" observing the investigation, but they are not ready to comment on it. He noted that the case of Golunov should be an occasion "for the close attention of the Prosecutor General and other services," but he refused to answer the question of the possible resignations and objectivity of the investigation.
