Talking about such a distant and little culture for a Russian person as a culture of united Arab emirates, it is difficult to choose where to start.
What is the first thing to catch the eye of a foreigner who first visits the UAE? Perhaps the breathtaking height of the skyscrapers of Dubai and Abu Dhabi and, of course, the outfits of local residents. If the first is the story of a maximum of 30 years ago, then folk clothing is certainly part of the traditional culture of this country. It is about costumes that will be discussed.
Both men's and female traditional OAE clothes come from the Bedouin past local population. Long, covering most of the body of the dress and scarves as a headdress (yes, in men, too), serve as excellent protection from the sun and sand, eternal satellites in the desert.
So, let's start with a men's suit.
Kandura (Dishdash). White or light gray (in winter there can be other colors, for example, brown) a free cut dress. It is curious that men can change several kandur in a day: the dress should always remain perfectly clean.
KanduraGutra. A long scarf, usually white or red-white, must completely cover the head and back of the neck. As a rule, he is crowned with a long black hoop -ruff - Igal. Initially, the Bedouins with this rope also tied a camel for the night. Now Igal is used for beauty, and does not allow gutra to slide down.
Gafia. In fact, a headdress that Muslims should cover their heads during prayer. But men in the UAE wear him constantly under Gutro. The Bedouins wore it under a handkerchief for convenience: during the crossing along the desert, you do not need to think about whether your headdress is with you to make a prayer.
GafiaBIST. If you have a man in a best, then know: this person occupies a high position in society. A long cape (most often black, but you can find other colors), which is worn over a kandura. But Bisht is not worn daily - usually in it appear at particularly important and solemn events.
BISTNaal. Traditional leather sandals worn by men in the UAE to this day. It is unlikely that they will make them out: Candura always covers them, and to stretch his legs or put his feet to a show is generally considered a bad tone in the Middle East.
NaalTraditional or European? Despite the globalization trends, in their native country, the inhabitants of the UAE go exclusively in traditional clothes. However, when they go beyond the Emirates, the local Ministry of Tourism advises to wear European clothes. This happened after in the early 2000s. The emirate was arrested in Okhayo on suspicion of terrorism - only because he was dressed in a traditional costume. But such a rule does not apply to official events where representatives of the UAE seek to emphasize their nationality.
