Volvo introduced a serial drone based on the XC90 crossover.

On June 12, Volvo introduced the first serial unmanned vehicle, created on the basis of the XC90 crossover in the framework of cooperation with the American Uber taxi service.

According to RBC , the car is equipped with all modern auxiliary systems responsible for the operation of the accelerator, brakes and steering, which are adapted to interact with Uber software. For orientation in space, the car uses a whole set of sensors and in unmanned mode it can go along clearly marked roads, including the highway and ring highways.

It is also reported that the car received a backup battery for additional equipment and the function of an emergency stop in case of a refusal of any car system.

Recall that Volvo and Uber in August 2016 announced a project worth $ 300 million to create a test fleet of unmanned vehicles in the American city of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania). Within the framework of this project, VOLVO set Uber to be a hundred XC90 crossovers for testing. At the end of 2017, the Swedish automaker signed a framework agreement with the Uber on the sale from 2019 to 2021 to 24 thousand XC90 crossovers, which will become part of the first robotic Uber Tax Park.

The recently updated version of the autopilot for its cars was introduced by Tesla, which plans to launch its own unmanned taxi service. However, the tests of the new system showed that it is far from perfect.
