Volvo began to experience an unmanned vehicle electric vera on public roads (video)

The Swedish automaker Volvo and the ferry and logistics company DFDS launched a pilot project to deliver goods using autonomous electric tractors Vera.

According to 3Dnews , DFDS will use several Volvo unmanned tractors to transport containers from a logistics cent to the goetborg port terminal along the route that partially passes along the public roads, at a maximum speed of 40 kilometers per hour. The movement of the trucks will be monitored by the operators of the transport control center.

So far, the project is at an early stage, and a significant part of the infrastructure for its full launch, including the automatic gates of the port terminal, is not yet ready. According to the partner’s estimates, the transportation system with the help of unmanned tractors will work in a few years.

Recall that Volvo introduced the Vera tractor in September. It is a flat four -wheeled platform without a cab, which can independently joke with trailers and move along the roads. According to the creators, in the future, Vera tractors, combined into one network using cloud technologies, will be able to find use for delivery of goods over short distances. One of the advantages of electric trotter consists in its noiselessness, which means the possibility of its use without restrictions at night.
