First mass celebrated in Notre Dame after the fire

Notre Dame Cathedral hosted the first mass after the fire, which destroyed the building's spire, almost the entire roof, and burned down the clock. The broadcast was conducted by the KTO TV channel.

France Info notes that the mass was held in the chapel, which was not damaged by the fire. It was attended by about 30 people, for security reasons they put on construction helmets. In total, about 30 people took part in the mass, including the Archbishop of Paris, Michel Opéty, and the rector of Notre Dame, Patrick Chauvet.

The mass was timed to coincide with the Feast of the Dedication in honor of the consecration of the altar of the cathedral, specifies Le Parisien.

The fire at Notre Dame Cathedral occurred on April 15. No one died during the incident, two policemen and one firefighter were injured during the extinguishing. French President Emmanuel Macron said it would take five years to restore the cathedral. French Minister of Culture Frank Riester did not rule out that the restoration work may not be completed within this period.
