Meduza Special Correspondent Ivan Golunov has been granted protection as a witness in a criminal drug trafficking case in which he was previously charged. Sergey Badamshin, the journalist's lawyer, told MBKh Media about this.

According to some reports, the same protection was provided to Ekho Moskvy journalist Tatyana Felgenhauer (after the attack in October 2017) and journalist Oleg Kashin (after the assassination attempt in November 2010).
- Ivan Golunov was detained on June 6 in the center of Moscow on charges of attempted drug trafficking. The journalist claims that drugs were planted on him during the search, and then he was beaten. The court placed Golunov under house arrest, but on June 11, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev announced the termination of the criminal prosecution of the journalist due to lack of evidence of his guilt.
