Designer Gloria Vanderbilt dies

Gloria Vanderbilt - artist, actress and designer - has died at the age of 95.

Vanderbilt, born in 1924 to a famous family of American millionaires, rose to prominence as a child due to a high-profile custody lawsuit. These events formed the basis for the 1982 Emmy and Golden Globe nominated mini-series Little Gloria.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Vanderbilt performed on stage and played several roles in television series. She was married to director Sidney Lumet from 1956 to 1963.

In the 1970s, Vanderbilt produced clothes under her own name, including jeans, accessories, and perfumes. The trademarks were later sold to new owners.

In the early 2000s, Vanderbilt's first solo exhibition, "Dream Boxes", was held to critical acclaim.
