A criminal case was opened against a follower of Jehovah's Witnesses in the Arkhangelsk region

Employees of the Investigative Committee in the Arkhangelsk region opened a criminal case for participation in the activities of an extremist organization (Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code) against 78-year-old follower of Jehovah's Witnesses Kaleria Mamykina. This was reported on a website covering the persecution of believers.

Investigators opened a criminal case on May 7. Before this, as they write in the publication, they had been monitoring Mamykina for more than a year, collecting information about her participation in the activities of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

• On April 20, 2017, the Supreme Court recognized the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” as an extremist organization, liquidated it and banned its activities in Russia. In August, all Jehovah's Witnesses organizations were added to the list of prohibited organizations.
• In February, the court handed down the first sentence in the case of Jehovah's Witnesses with real imprisonment - Danish citizen Dennis Christensen was sentenced to six years in prison.
