Barnaul: Activists held a rally against the destruction of monuments

About 50 people gathered in Barnaul for a rally in defense of the historical heritage of the Altai Territory. The participants in the action demanded that regional officials engage in the real protection of the historical heritage of the region, and in case of inability to resign.

The action organized by the regional department of the Civil Patrol movement lasted about an hour, only activists of the Komsomol organization participated in it from representatives of political forces. The protesters held posters with a demand to stop the destruction of historical and cultural monuments, as well as the resignation of officials who oversee historical objects in the regional government.

As the historian Daniil Degtyarev noted in his speech, recently the situation with historical monuments in the region and Barnaul is only worsening.

“A year has passed, as our movement has held the first campaign in defense of historical monuments. Since then, we have lost a number of unique objects of antiquity and continue to lose them. So, the recent court actually gave the go -ahead to destroy the estate of the merchant Mikhailov. A similar sad fate awaits a number of buildings. But the memory is not only in the words, but also in the buildings, next to which we often go,” he said.

Other speakers accused Altai security culture of non -fulfilling their duties to protect the historical heritage of the city.

“Unfortunately, not many people came to today as we hoped, but still people gathered in the square. We hope, nevertheless, that the ranks of the defenders of historical objects will grow. During the rally, activists collected signatures demanding the leadership of the region to take measures to protect historical heritage and develop the necessary laws for this.

After the rally, a lecture-excursion in the historical and memorable places of Barnaul was planned.

On March 27, activists of a public organization held a picket at the Altai security culture building against the demolition of the old estate of the merchant Mikhailov. After that, they filed a lawsuit against the department with a demand to stop the dismantling of an old building. However, the regional court in the end of May decided to reject the claim of social activists.
