Telegram announced that the new version of the messenger for Android, iOS and desktop platforms will feature geochat. In such chats, people who are directly close to each other and united by common interests can communicate. Any user can create their own geochat, specifying its subject, location and geolocation radius — from 100 m to 6 km.

• As follows from the technical documentation of Telegram, the entire history of communication in the geochat will be available to any user, including those messages that were created long before this user entered the geochat.
• Geochats will have custom tags called "checkins". This is a service message that the user has appeared in the location associated with the geochat.
• Since geochats are public, the number of participating users will be unlimited. Each time new members join, old members may be removed from the bottom of the list.
• The privacy and anonymity of the platform will be respected with the new function: in order for people to see you nearby, you must specifically go to the geochat section.
