The head of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov said that he was going to resign, TASS reports .

“I decided to appeal to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin with a request for early adherence to the authority of the head of the republic,” Yevkurov said in an appeal that was broadcast by the Ingushetia NTRK.

He explained his solution to the current situation in the republic:

“There is a development program for our republic, there are plans <...> But one of the main conditions for this is the unity of our people. I clearly see that today it is undergoing strength. I am not blind, the authorities did not overshadow my eyes. Let's get the courage to say that all of us - the power that I represent, public, religious and other organizations are responsible for this, that we are disconnected today. Each of us faces a choice - personal interests or interests of our native republic. And everyone acts in accordance with their upbringing, their ideals and their own idea of ​​the statehood of our republic. I urge all interested parties to make my choice. I made my choice. "

Evkurov has been heading Ingushetia since 2008. He was elected for a new term by deputies of the parliament of the republic on September 9, 2018.

Since the fall of 2018, protests were in the republic due to the exchange of lands with Chechnya. After the clashes of protesters with the security forces in the spring of 2019, a criminal case was instituted on the use of violence against representatives of the authorities (part 2 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code), which was combined with the case of calls to riots (part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code). In this criminal case, the leaders of protest and more than two dozen ordinary participants were sent in the pre -trial detention center.
