President Vladimir Putin accepted the resignation of the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, TASS reports .

his decision to resign early on Yevkurov announced June 24. “Let’s have the courage to say that all of us - the government that I represent, public, religious and other organizations - are responsible for this, that we are divided today,” he said.

Yevkurov has led the republic since 2008. Since the fall of 2018, there have been protests in Ingushetia against changes in the border with Chechnya. According to Meduza's sources, Yevkurov resigned due to protracted protests. As a result of the clashes , a criminal case was opened , and more than 20 Ingush activists were arrested.

Since 1990, Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov worked in the prosecutor's office in the Samara region, in 2003-2004 he was the first deputy prosecutor of the region. In August 2004, Kalimatov was a prosecutor in Ingushetia, but already in 2007 he moved to work in the control department of the governor. In December 2015, he began working as the head of the local department of Rosprirodnadzor.
