The prisoners of the Mordovian colony No. 7 announced beatings and began a mass hunger strike. Some of them cut themselves

About 60 prisoners of correctional colony No. 7 in the village of Sosnovka in the north of Mordovia declared a hunger strike, and some of them inflicted injuries for themselves. Thus, the prisoners, according to them, opposed the violence by the employees of the colony administration.

- Our conditions were sad before: dampness in the cells, drinking water smells of sewage. But with the arrival of the new boss, Sergey Sergushkin in February this year, they also began to beat, ”said the prisoner Maxim Semenov. - They beat if the button is unbuttoned, if it was not in shape. For any misconduct.

They can put on handcuffs and beat them with a club. They can simply fasten the handcuffs behind their backs and beat the crowd. They almost do not beat on the head. Mostly on the kidneys, often on the heels.

According to Semenov, the first time the prisoners decided to announce the mass hunger strike on June 5 - after one of them, Ruslan Mitrofanov, almost put the club in the anus. Protecting, Mitrofanov, according to Semenov, “opened” his stomach.

-As a sign of solidarity with him, several more guys cut themselves: someone a stomach, someone veins. Thirty cameras completely refused food - this is almost 60 people. On June 11, we had a prosecutor, I don’t remember my last name. He said that the order in the colony would be restored, that they will be normally treated to us. We stopped the hunger strike and took dinner. And in the evening of the same day - again the guy was beaten, his name is Dan. And we began to starve again.

Semenov also talks about other actions of the administration, which prisoners are regarded as torture.

- The chlorine in large quantities is poured into a bucket of water and simply spilled into the camera. A cough appears from this, the eyes are watery, a rash on the skin. And on the lungs, this terribly affects: contributes to the development of tuberculosis.

Similar statements in an interview with the publication of Ahbor were made by relatives of the Tajik prisoners serving a sentence in IK-7 (the colony contains more than 100 citizens of Tajikistan).

“The beatings continue. They take out for a search, undress naked and beat. Standardly - beat off the legs, kidneys.

All personal belongings, permitted and prohibited, are thrown away. Correspondence to the supervisory authorities do not pass, the envelopes are tearing <...>

According to the instructions, it is supposed to raise up to 9 mm of a beard, but since we [Tajiks] have black hair, and our beards are immediately visible, sent for 15 days to a schizo, even if one day did not have time to shave. Because of such far-fetched punishments, a person is losing the opportunity for parole. ”

In the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Republic of Mordovia, Novaya Gazeta confirmed that the IK-7 prisoners massively inflicted injuries to themselves. But it was noted that the episode with which it all started - the use of power to the prisoner Ruslan Mitrofanov was forced.

“Information about the allegedly taking place in the unlawful use of force regarding the convicted Mitrofanov is not true. During the complex search events, the convicted Mitrofanov, constantly violating the sentence of sentence, refused to fulfill the legal requirements of the administration related to personal inspection. Physical power was applied to the convict (bending both hands behind his back). The aforementioned fact is recorded on a portable video camera.

A group of convicts, who are also malicious violators, in support of the “disagreement” with the search of the convict, protesting against the legal actions of the institution’s administration, committed the acts of self -mutilation.

The convicted person was provided with medical assistance. Damage caused by convicts do not pose any danger to life and health. On the fact of the use of physical force (bending of both hands behind the back), the employees of the institution conducted an audit. Materials in accordance with Art. 144–145 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation are transferred to the investigating authorities. ”
