In St. Petersburg, police detained a candidate for municipal deputies based on an anonymous complaint

In St. Petersburg, police officers, following an anonymous complaint, detained a candidate for deputy of the Sampsonievskoye municipality, Roman Maksimov. He himself told OVD-Info about this.

According to Maksimov, at 4:00 am, he joined the queue at the district administration to submit documents for registration as a candidate in the municipal elections. At this time, there was already a queue of eight people outside the building. Maksimov suspects that at least some of them were bogus and created a queue to prevent other candidates from registering.

An hour later, everyone was allowed to enter the lobby of the building. Maksimov was waiting in front of the turnstile. Later he went to the toilet. The guard was sleeping, so the man decided not to disturb him.

“The guard was indignant that I passed without his permission, but we settled the conflict. After some time, he began to receive many calls to the duty telephone. Before that, I repeatedly sat in line and there was nothing like that, the phone is always silent. I noticed that one of the people in the queue was constantly leaving and calling somewhere. After that, two policemen arrived,” Maksimov says.

The police officers did not introduce themselves and did not explain the reason for the detention, but took the man to the department. There they took away his passport and held him for about two hours. Then Maksimov was asked to give an explanation and released on a promise to appear. The man did not have time to register as a candidate, because his turn had already passed by that time.

“We have a group on social networks where candidates talk about their attempts to register. In these queues, every day there is some kind of intensity of passion, the police are constantly called, front people sit in the queues, and so on, ”says Maksimov.
