The former artistic director of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater Conductor Theodore Krentzis published an open letter about his departure from the post, which accused the regional authorities of misunderstanding. The fact that Krentzis has been leaving the position that he held since 2011 became known last week, but the conductor only now personally commented on this decision.
The full text of the letter gives Echo Perm . "When I first came to Perm, I thought that it would remain when I should leave. I wanted to create something not for myself, but for the people who live in this city. I wanted to help create a conservatory so that the next generations of beautiful musicians were Permyaki, I wanted to give an incentive to talented people to stay here and develop this city. I remember: the authorities do not consider it appropriate, we have it all, we have it, we have it all, we have it. The best, ”Krentzis notes.
“I still don’t know if our beloved viewers understood what we wanted to say. And I’m not sure that we will ever be able to explain to them and to ourselves what this frenzied thirst for the beautiful. And the authorities, of course, did not understand anything. Naturally. For those who are knowledgeable in history, this is an obvious fact: this is the function of the authorities - not to understand,” the conductor stated bitterly.
He thanked their colleagues: the choreographer and chief chief choreographer of the Perm Theater Alexei Miroshnichenko, executive director of the theater Andrei Borisov, conductor Artem Abashev, soloists, orchestraists, choristers, dancers, as well as vice president of Lukoil OJSC, who supported the theater and the former deputy director Theater Galina Polushkin, "who spent all her money on the utopian productions of the Perm dream."
In conclusion, the musician ironically thanked the administration of the Perm Territory, "because without their complete misunderstanding, lack of trepidation and sensitivity, I would never find the strength to decide to leave my paradise."
On June 21, it became known about the decision of Kurentsis since September to stop working as a artistic director of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theater and focus on the further development of the Musicaeterna orchestra. The motives of his decisions were not specified, but it was known that the conductor was against attracting a businessman and theater figure Vladimir Kekhman to build a new stage in the Perm Theater, which could not be realized about a quarter century.
The historical building of the theater does not meet modern requirements, but it cannot be rebuilt. In 2010, the British architect David Chipperfield won the architectural competition. However, the leadership changed in the region, the project budget was reduced, and then decided to completely abandon it. With the advent of the current governor to the British project, they returned again, but the work did not start.
The construction of the theater was interested in Vladimir Kekhman, who became the artistic director of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater after the scandal with the opera Richard Wagner Tangeiser. At the same time, he is the artistic director of the Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg. Kekhman presented in the government of the Perm Territory a new project of the second scene, the author of which is unknown.
Sources of Medusa reported the negative attitude of Cuentsis to Kekhman and his participation in the creation of a new scene. In their opinion, the conductor is a complex and non -certificate figure for the Governor of the Perm Territory, while Kekhman can oversee construction, lobby for financing from the federal treasury and direct the creative part. Kekhman himself, according to some reports, is interested in the idea of uniting several imperial theaters under general management.
In 2015, Kurentzis distributed an open letter in connection with the events around the production of the opera Tannheiser, accusing the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation of incompetence and cracking of society. A year earlier, he accused of incompetence of Perm representatives of the Ministry of Culture, who reduced financing his theater and demanded to coordinate the theater’s repertoire with the Ministry and include all performances and even concerts in the constant repertoire.
