The Moscow City Hall did not approve a march in support of the Khachaturian sisters in the city center

The Moscow mayor's office refused to agree to a march in the city center in support of the Khachaturian sisters, who are accused of killing their own father, who beat them and sexually abused them. About this writes "Wonderzine" with reference to the organizers of the action.

The "March of the Sisters" was planned to be held on July 6 with a route from Pushkinskaya Square through Strastnoy Boulevard to Academician Sakharov Avenue. Up to five thousand people were supposed to participate in the action, and the authorities motivated their refusal by “the lack of a platform for gathering such a large number of people.”

The city administration offered the organizers an alternative site in the Lyublino area in the southeast of Moscow. The applicants will continue the dialogue with the authorities and hope that they will still agree on a march or rally closer to the city center.

“At the same time, the problem of domestic violence, which was planned to be discussed at the March of Sisters, has the scale of a national catastrophe and it would be worth discussing it on the central streets of the city. In Russia, 14,000 women die every year from domestic violence. Worldwide, 50,000 women a year die at the hands of relatives and partners, which means that Russian women make up almost a third of all victims of domestic violence, ”Wonderzine quotes a statement from the organizers in response to the refusal of the mayor’s office.
