The European Parliament refused to recognize his deputy of the former leader of Catalonia Puchdemon

The chairman of the European Parliament (EP) Antonio Tayan refused to recognize the former leader of Catalonia Carles Puchdemon and the ex-adviser of the regional Cabinet of Council of Council of Cominos by deputies of the chamber. The newspaper El Pais wrote about this on Friday with reference to a letter sent by Tayan to two politicians who, following the results of the elections on May 26, received places in the EP, reports TASS.

Puchdemon and Komina fled from Spain to Belgium in 2017 after an illegal referendum on the independence of the region. On the territory of the Pyrenee kingdom, there is an order to arrest them.

“It seems that your names are not included in the list of elected deputies officially declared in the European Parliament,” Tayani said. “As a result, and before further notifications from the Spanish authorities, I cannot currently recognize you as future members of the European parliament.”

The head of the EP said that the presentation of deputy certificates depends in the case of Puchdemon and the Komin from the Spanish authorities.

The Central Electoral Commission of the Pyrenee Kingdom did not include the names of two politicians in the final list of parliamentarians elected in the EP, which was sent to Brussels, noting that Puchdemon and Komin did not appear in Spain in order to take the oath as Eurodes.

Recall, on October 1, 2017 in Catalonia there was a vote on the issue of leaving Spain. 2,26 out of 5.31 million who have the right to vote of the Catalans was taken in it. 90% of the voting participants spoke out for independence. In Madrid, this referendum is considered illegitimate and refuse to recognize its results.

A number of referendum organizers were convicted on charges of separatism. The ex-head of Catalonia Carles Puchdemon was forced to leave the country. He fled to Belgium, then ended up in Finland. On March 25, 2018, a cursory Spanish politician was detained in Germany, where he arrived from Denmark.

In July 2018, the German Court of the Federal Land Schleswig-Holstein allowed Spain Puchdemon to give Spain on charges of embezzlement of state funds. At the same time, the court rejected the possibility of issuing Puchdemon on charges of inciting to the rebellion, which is punished in Spain for 30 years in prison. However, the Spanish Supreme Court does not want to consent to the extradition of the former head of the Catalan government only on charges of embezzlement of budget funds.

Then Puchdemon returned from Germany to Brussels, where he received political asylum. He promised that he would continue to engage in political activities in order to fulfill the legal requirements of the Catalans and will seek the liberation of all political prisoners in Spain. “But it is quite obvious that the conditions for my return are not fulfilled, we are subjected to difficult repression,” he told RTBF on September 28.
