In terminal D of Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport on the afternoon of June 30, long queues formed for check-in for flights and baggage check-in. This is reported by passengers in social networks. Judging by the photographs, people filled almost the entire departure hall.
Employees of two airlines flying to Sheremetyevo told Vedomosti that this weekend, a subsidiary of the airport of the Sheremetyevo handling company experienced a failure, due to which about nine thousand pieces of luggage were not sent to their destination.
The press service of Sheremetyevo did not confirm this information . They said that because of the rain, part of the flights arrived at Sheremetyevo late, which is why 1,500 pieces of luggage have accumulated at the airport, and now it is sent to its destinations. “The luggage belt did not function in terminal D for about 30 minutes, the problem has been fixed,” the press service added.
In early June, Sheremetyevo passengers faced many hours of delays in baggage claim after arrival. Also, long queues for baggage check-in had to be defended by those departing from the airport, many flights were delayed.
According to Meduza 's sources, delays in baggage claim at Sheremetyevo were due to staffing problems — against the backdrop of wage cuts, porters began to leave the airport en masse.
Sheremetyevo denied the problem with the lack of loaders, explaining what happened by "a change in technological processes in the maintenance and handling of luggage."
