"This is a legendary day." Trump on the results of the meeting with Kim Jong-un

US President Donald Trump called successful his spontaneous talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the demilitarized zone on the border between the two Koreas.

“It was a great day, very legendary and historic,” he told reporters after a meeting with the North Korean leader that lasted more than an hour. “Everyone was so happy and a lot of people in Korea, I noticed, were in tears,” he added.

According to the President, the leaders of the two countries agreed to resume negotiations on nuclear disarmament of the DPRK. To do this, each of the parties will assemble a team of negotiators who will meet in the next two to three weeks.

At the same time, Trump refused at this stage to lift the economic sanctions imposed on the DPRK, but promised that they could be eased if the negotiations go well.

• On June 30, Donald Trump was the first American president to visit North Korea - during his visit to the demilitarized zone, he met with Kim Jong-un and symbolically set foot on the territory of the DPRK. The meeting was unplanned, it was agreed only the day before.
• This was Trump's third talks with Kim. They first met in June 2018 in Singapore and then in February 2019 in Hanoi. Negotiations between the heads of the United States and the DPRK were considered a failure.
