The new head of the European Commission may be a representative of the second largest in the European Parliament of the Left -Center faction of socialists and democrats - France Timmermans from the Netherlands. This was reported by the German media and information agencies with reference to documents transferred by the head of the European Council by Donald Tupture to the leaders of the largest factions of the European Parliament on the eve of the EU summit, which opens on Sunday evening.
The candidacy of Timmermans is part of a wide compromise, to which, as reported, representatives of the legal entities, levocentrists and liberals came. According to the media, Manfred Weber - a candidate for the post of head of the European Commission from the largest faction, the right -center European People's Party - will become the head of the European Parliament, and not the European Commission. The head of the European Council, after the departure of Tusk, will become a representative of the Liberal faction, apparently, a candidate from the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, “Forward, Republic!”.
Changes at the EU leading posts will occur in the fall, but they must be agreed now.
Officially, the decision is expected to be announced according to the results of the EU summit. Its results cannot be called predetermined, since earlier the socialist’s candidacy at the head of the European Commission objected, in particular, Italy and a number of Eastern European countries. The compromise, however, is reportedly supported by Germany, Spain and France.
