Based on Ookla® analysis of Q1 and Q2 2019 Speedtest® data
The high speed of mobile Internet allows subscribers to download and listen to online music, video, photos faster, communicate on the Internet and transfer files of any size to each other. For example, a movie, which in normal quality "weighs" about 700 MB, can be fully downloaded by MegaFon customers at a speed of 26 Mbps in just 3 minutes, and its online viewing is possible without any delays.
For the third year in a row, Ookla® named MegaFon the company with the fastest mobile internet in Russia. At the same time, not only high speed when uploading and downloading files is important for subscribers, but also the availability of the service, which means the network coverage area in the place where the client uses his gadget. According to this indicator, MegaFon also confirms its long-term leadership. The number of base stations of the company exceeds 238 thousand, according to Roskomnadzor, and this is the best result among all mobile operators in the country. During 2019, the number of base stations of the LTE (4G) standard at MegaFon increased by 12% to 98,111, and 4G/LTE Internet is now available in 83 regions of Russia.
“In recent years, we have seen a real boom in the use of mobile Internet - this is facilitated by both the general development of popular Internet services and new mobile content, and the emergence of new favorable tariffs for subscribers. Today, a MegaFon client downloads over 10 GB per month on average, and in order to provide the highest mobile Internet speed and the best communication quality for our clients, MegaFon annually invests significant financial and intellectual resources in the development and tuning of the network. The award of the international company Ookla for the fastest mobile Internet in Russia clearly confirms the leadership of MegaFon, while these studies are based on real measurements carried out by thousands of subscribers of all mobile operators in the country,” comments Vlad Volfson, Commercial Director of MegaFon.
“We are pleased to provide the widest range of our customers with the best quality communications and access to the Internet at the highest speeds and are happy that our efforts have been appreciated for the third year in a row by the independent international company Ookla,” adds Frederic Vanoschuize, Director of Technical Innovation at MegaFon and infrastructure. “To achieve such success and recognition is not only an honor. This imposes on the entire company a great responsibility to subscribers for the quality of services that we present now and will provide in the future. I promise that the entire MegaFon infrastructure team will continue to make every effort to confirm the expectations of our beloved customers. After all, we closely monitor trends in the consumption of new services and build a communication infrastructure focusing solely on the needs of our customers. Already the current network capabilities in terms of download and upload speed allow more than 76 million subscribers to enjoy online HD video, communicate and broadcast live on social networks and stay in touch all the time.”
