A court in Perm imposed a fine of 300 thousand rubles on a follower of Jehovah's Witnesses

The Ordzhonikidze District Court of Perm fined Jehovah's Witnesses follower Alexander Solovyov 300 thousand rubles, Mediazona reports .

Soloviev is charged under Part 2 of Article 282.2 of the Criminal Code (participation in an extremist organization). The prosecutor's office asked for three and a half years in prison for him. This was reported on a website covering the persecution of believers.

A criminal case against Solovyov was initiated back in May 2018. He was detained along with his wife right at the railway station after a trip abroad. The police conducted a search in the apartment, during which they seized documents, electronic devices, storage media, a Wi-Fi router, photographs and a collection of Bibles. Solovyov spent two days in a temporary detention center and another 179 days under house arrest. In November, the preventive measure was changed to a ban on certain actions.

• The sentence against Alexander Solovyov is the first adopted in connection with the decision of the Supreme Court on April 20, 2017 to recognize the “Administrative Center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” and 395 local communities of Jehovah’s Witnesses as extremist organizations. Their activities in Russia were prohibited. In August, all organizations Jehovah's Witnesses were added to the list of banned people. After this, a stream of criminal cases began against followers of Jehovah's Witnesses in different regions of the country.
• In February 2019, the court handed down the first sentence in the case of Jehovah's Witnesses with real imprisonment - Danish citizen Dennis Christensen, accused of organizing the activities of an extremist organization, was sentenced to six years in prison. The Jehovah's Witnesses community in Oryol was banned back in 2016.
• In April, a court in Oryol sentenced Jehovah's Witnesses follower Sergei Skrynnikov to a fine of 350 thousand rubles on charges of participating in the activities of an extremist organization.
