Russian Transport Minister Yevgeny Dietrich said he expects a “drastic improvement and stabilization” in the situation with baggage claim at Sheremetyevo Airport until August 15.
“We expect a local improvement in the situation by the end of July,” the minister said after a meeting at the airport. By July 10, according to him, the management of Sheremetyevo will present a plan of measures to stabilize the situation.
To optimize baggage claim, the Ministry of Transport noted, in particular, it is planned to hire about 400 people and redirect 12 flights from terminal D to other terminals.
- Since the beginning of June, Sheremetyevo has been experiencing many hours of delays in the delivery and check-in of luggage. At the airport, they first said that the problem arose against the backdrop of the peak of the tourist season, and then due to changes in technological processes. For a while the situation stabilized, but in July the delays began again.
- According to Meduza's sources , the problems began after porters quit the airport en masse due to wage cuts.
- In early July, several executives of the Sheremetyevo Handling company, responsible for massive failures in baggage claim, were fired at the request of the transport prosecutor's office.
