Evgeny Marcelli will stage the play “Jokers” by Ostrovsky at Satyricon. Previously, he resigned from the Volkovsky Theater

Former artistic director of the Yaroslavl Volkov Drama Theater Yevgeny Marchelli will stage Alexander Ostrovsky's play Jokers at the Satyricon Theater.

As reported in the Satyricon, 25 theater artists will be involved in the production. The main role will be played by Konstantin Raikin.

Ostrovsky wrote the play Jokers in 1864. It tells the story of a poor retired official, Pavel Obroshenov, who is trying to find money for his future son-in-law, but is faced with jokes and practical jokes from wealthy neighbors.

The premiere of the play at the Satyricon is scheduled for December 2019.

• Evgeny Marchelli is an honored worker of arts, a laureate of the Golden Mask award. Since February 2011, he has been Artistic Director of the Yaroslavl Fyodor Volkov Theatre, the first Russian professional theatre.
• On July 5, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation reprimanded Yevgeny Marchelli because of a conflict with the director of the Volkovsky Theater Alexei Turkalov, and also fired Turkalov. After that, Marcelli resigned from the theater.
