On Saturday evening, the deadline for submitting documents to the Moscow City Election Commission to register candidates for deputies of the Moscow City Duma expired. Previously, 417 people announced their desire to compete for 45 parliamentary mandates, of which only 21 (representatives of United Russia, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and the My Moscow association) are current parliamentarians, Interfax’s interlocutor at the Moscow City Election Commission reported.

To register, self-nominated candidates and representatives of non-parliamentary parties needed to collect about 5,000 signatures of voters in their support. Among those who managed to do this are a dozen well-known oppositionists.

Thus, from the Yabloko party, eight candidates were able to collect signatures: Evgeny Bunimovich (district No. 6 - Golovinsky district, Levoberezhny, Khovrino, part of Western Degunin), Sergey Mitrokhin (district No. 43 - Arbat, Presnensky, Khamovniki), Elena Rusakova (district No. 37 – Academichesky, Gagarinsky, Lomonosovsky, part of the Vernadsky Avenue district), Andrey Babushkin (district No. 11 – Altufevsky, Marfino, Otradnoye), Kirill Goncharov (district No. 32 – Danilovsky, Donskoy, Nagatino-Sadovniki, part of the Nagatinsky backwater), Daria Besedina (district No. 8 - Airport, Voikovsky, Koptevo, Sokol), Anastasia Bryukhanova (district No. 42 - Dorogomilovo, Ramenki, part of the Fili-Davydkovo district) and Maxim Kruglov (district No. 14 - Alekseevsky, Butyrsky, Maryina Roshcha, Ostankino, Rostokino ). Several Yabloko nominees did not manage to collect the required number of signatures, including the head of the Yakimanka municipal district Andrei Morev and former Kommersant columnist Viktor Khamraev.

Two associates of politician Alexei Navalny also submitted signatures to the district election commissions on Saturday: Lyubov Sobol, who runs in the same 43rd district as Mitrokhin, and Anti-Corruption Foundation lawyer Ivan Zhdanov (district No. 8). The former leader of the Democratic Choice party, Vladimir Milov, failed to collect signatures: he wrote on Facebook that he lacked 120 signatures, since some had to be deleted due to marriage. The head of the Krasnoselsky municipal district, Ilya Yashin (district No. 45 - Krasnoselsky, Sokolniki, Basmanny, Meshchansky) submitted signatures in support of his nomination on Friday. Also, municipal deputies Konstantin Yankauskas (district No. 31 - Zyuzino, Severnoye Chertanovo, Nagorny) and Yulia Galyamina (district No. 9 - Begovoy, Timiryazevsky, Savelovsky) managed to collect the required number of autographs.

In addition, ex-State Duma deputy Dmitry Gudkov and two people from his team submitted signatures. Gudkov himself is running in constituency No. 5 (Filyovsky Park, part of the Shchukino district, Khoroshevo-Mnevniki), Alexander Solovyov is running in constituency No. 3 (Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo, Mitino, part of the Shchukino district), and Dmitry Klochkov is running in constituency No. 14.

This time, members of United Russia are also running as self-nominated candidates, including the head of the Moscow branch, Andrei Metelsky, and the current chairman of the Moscow City Duma, Alexei Shaposhnikov. Election commissions have ten days to verify the authenticity of the signatures. Elections to the Moscow City Duma will be held on September 8, all 45 deputies will be elected in single-mandate constituencies.
