The leader of the Ukrainian party “Opposition Platform - For Life” Viktor Medvedchuk told how he met Russian President Vladimir Putin and how he became the godfather of his daughter. An interview with the Ukrainian politician was aired on the Rossiya 1 TV channel.

According to Medvedchuk, he first met Putin in the early 2000s, when he was deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The acquaintance with the Russian president took place at one of the official events, the politician said. Later, having become the head of the presidential administration of Ukraine, Medvedchuk often saw Dmitry Medvedev, who then held a similar position in Russia, and Putin.

Medvedchuk’s youngest daughter Daria became Putin’s goddaughter in 2004. The girl’s godmother is Dmitry Medvedev’s wife Svetlana. According to the politician, his wife Oksana asked him to make such a request to the President of Russia. Medvedchuk added that he and his family were very pleased that Putin did not refuse.

When asked if the goddaughter sees her godfather, Medvedchuk answered in the affirmative. According to him, one of the meetings took place in Crimea before 2014. Putin then gave his goddaughter a bouquet of flowers and a teddy bear.
