Putin opposed sanctions against Georgia

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he was opposed to sanctions against Georgia. It is reported by RIA Novosti.

Putin noted that "he would not do this out of respect for the Georgian people."

At the same time, earlier the State Duma recommended the Government of Russia to consider a number of restrictions on Georgia. The measures proposed by the State Duma concerned the supply of wine and soda water and money transfers.

Relations between Russia and Georgia worsened after a protest action began in Tbilisi on the evening of June 20. This happened after the State Duma deputy Sergei Gavrilov took the place of the speaker of the Georgian parliament at the Assembly of Orthodoxy, speaking in Russian.
