Police made arrests after a rally for free elections in Moscow

Moscow police detained a teenager and a man after an agreed-upon rally for free elections, which took place on Sakharov Avenue, OVD-Info reports.

MBH media, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports that the police are taking the teenager to the Krasnoselsky police department. He was detained when a convoy of police officers and employees of the National Guard was pushing the rally participants from Sakharov Avenue.

In total, seven people were detained on Sakharov Avenue, according to OVD-Info data. MBKh Media reports six detainees.

• The rally for free elections in Moscow has become the largest concerted protest in recent years. According to the White Counter movement, 22.4 thousand people attended the rally. The Moscow Interior Ministry reported that 12,000 people took part in the action.
• The rally participants demanded that independent candidates who were denied registration be allowed to run for the Moscow City Duma elections. The founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Alexei Navalny, said at the rally that if the Moscow authorities do not comply with this demand, then on July 27 the opposition will stage a protest near the city hall.
