The attackers were armed with sticks and, supposedly, chose their victims of protests who were dressed in black - although ordinary passengers were also injured. It is assumed that the attackers could belong to the Hong Kong criminal groups (triadam), who have already associated with attacks on opposition activists.

The attack occurred at the Yunlon station, which is located in the district of the same name in the north-west of Hong Kong. Judging by numerous videos, dozens of people participated in the attack. They attacked people both at the station itself and in the train standing on the platform. As a result, 45 people were hospitalized, one of them is in critical condition, five more - including one woman - in a difficult one. According to eyewitnesses, among those who were attacked by the criminals, there were a pregnant woman and a woman with a child, writes The Guardian. Some of the passengers tried to defend themselves with the help of umbrellas.

Deputies from the opposition democratic camp accused the police of inaction, saying that the employees not only did not stop the attack, but supposedly left the scene and locked the department at the station. The police rejected these accusations - according to the police chiefs, the employees who arrived in the first minutes, seeing the scale of the incident, caused reinforcements that arrived more than half an hour, when the attackers had already dispersed. At night, the special forces surrounded the nearby village where people gathered in white T -shirts, but in the end no one was detained - according to the police, they could not delay people only for the color of their clothes, and these people did not find weapons.

The protests in the center of Hong Kong, which preceded the metro attack, were cruel, writes Reuters. Participants in the demonstrations gathered at the building of the Chinese representative office, threw it into eggs and painted the walls, painting, including the coat of arms of China. The police used rubber bullets and tear gas to protesters. The authorities say that the protesters, for their part, threw bricks, smoke bombs and bottles with incendiary mixture.

The Hong Kong Administration condemned the behavior of the demonstrators, calling it a "challenge to national sovereignty" and "a threat to the order and principle of" one state, two systems "."
