For the release of the Russian competitor Boeing-737 Max - the MS-21 airliner - they are asking for more money. The cost of the project will certainly exceed 500 billion rubles (the latest estimate of the Accounts Chamber is 438 billion rubles).
- The head of Rostec, Sergei Chemezov, asked President Putin to allocate another 300 billion rubles in order to “finally carry out the financial rehabilitation of all UAC (United Aircraft Corporation) enterprises and implement the “MS-21 program and other civilian projects.”
- In February 2019, Chemezov already asked for additional money - then the state allocated UAC 250 billion rubles.
- Since the start of the MS-21 program, the price has risen by 2.3 times, the period for creating the MS-21-300 aircraft has increased by three years, the Accounts Chamber wrote in November.
- The start of serial production of the MS-21 was shifted several times: in 2014, it was about 2017, and at the beginning of 2018, the then Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin promised the serial production of the aircraft in 2019.
