India has successfully launched the Chandrayaan-2 automatic station to the Moon with a lunar rover on board. If the mission is successful, India will become the fourth country (after the United States, the USSR and China) whose apparatus will make a soft landing on the Earth's satellite.
- The Chandrayaan-2 descent vehicle is to land near the south pole of the moon and release a small lunar rover. The main task is the search and mapping of water reserves and mineralogical studies.
- The Chandrayan-2 mission was a joint project between Roscosmos and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Cooperation was upset after the unsuccessful launch of the Phobos-Grunt apparatus (2011), on the basis of which it was supposed to create a lunar descent vehicle.
- India launched the device on its own medium carrier GSLV Mk III. India uses this rocket in its manned program, the first crewed launch is scheduled for 2022.
- In 2008, the Chandrayaan-1 station went to the Moon, which worked in lunar orbit for about a year.
- The Russian lunar program is based on the yet to be created manned spacecraft Federation, the carrier for which is to be the not yet created Irtysh rocket.
